Professional Associations

We are a proud member of the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA). Professional certifications matter and the NWFA is the most widely recognized and respected flooring association in the United States. Our membership and certification ensure SVB employees are knowledgeable on top flooring trends and installation practices.

After all that, then we employ our best practices like our 5-step installation process.

5-Step Wood Floor Installation Process

When it comes to staining and sealing our floors, at SVB we use an exclusive 5-step wood staining and floor finishing process for every installation:

1. Homeowner Preparation

When it comes time for installation, our process starts with our customers. We have found that good communication is the key to happy customers. We let you know what to expect, when to expect it, how long it will take and answer all of your questions upfront at our in-home consultation before we get started. We take great care to leave your home in perfect condition. This requires the furniture, drapery, and anything hanging on the walls to be removed by the homeowner before installation begins.

2. Sub-Floor Preparation

Before we begin laying any wood planks, we inspect the floor to find squeaks, low spots, and uneven seams then fix them by tightening from the sub-floor below. Then we sand the planks to an even plane. This creates the perfect foundation for your new floor – a smooth surface.

3. Dustless Wood Floor Sanding

After the floor is laid, we sand it. We use the BONA atomic dust containment system® which extracts 99% of dust into a sealed tube which is then carried to our trailer outside. There is no dust in your ductwork and no dust to ruin a perfect finish. It’s environmentally friendly too. The NWFA recommends making at least four passes with a sander, using a finer grit each time. SVB’s dustless sanding process begins with us typically using a 40 grit, then 60, 80, and finishing with 100 or 120 grit to get the floors smooth and ready for stain and sealant.

4. Custom Floor Staining

With our custom color process, we can create the exact color you choose for your wood floors. We test it on your floor so you can see it before we apply it. Once you are happy with the color, we apply the stain to the floor and install replacement base shoe for a completely finished look.

5. Three-Coat Floor Finish

Once the stain is dry, we use three coats of an environmentally safe, commercial-grade, water-based, fast-drying topcoat. The first coat seals. The second and third coats build thickness for years of durability. We screen, buff, and vacuum between coats for the absolute best results. Your floors will look incredible.

Our Reputation Is as Solid as Our Wood Floors

There you have it – our 5-step wood floor installation process. As you can see, we go to great lengths not only to build a reputation for quality, but to maintain it with every floor we install. You could trust someone else to install your wood floor, but with SVB, you get the peace of mind of over 20 years of experience and a company with a reputation for quality.
