Not All Dustless Sanding Is the Same

Dustless Sanding

Whether you get new wood floors or refinish your existing wood floors, the floors will have to be sanded. It’s part of the process. And it’s a messy part. But at SVB Wood Floors, we’ve been in business long enough to know that there’s a better way. You can’t avoid the sanding, but you can avoid the dust. However, not all dustless sanding systems are created equal.

BONA Atomic Dust Containment

We use the Bona Atomic Dust Containment System (DCS) with all of our wood floor installations and refinishing. There are other systems out there, but we did our homework and chose the BONA system. BONA® sanding tools actually trap and contain dust while sanding, preventing it from free-floating through your home or business. Then it is transported to the Atomic DCS trailer outside. The BONA system reduces airborne dust by 99.8% – the only dust left in your home is what’s already there.

No Dust Means Healthier Air

Did you know that dust from hardwoods (wood from deciduous trees that lose their leaves) is considered a Group I carcinogen, a substance known to cause head, neck, and lung cancer in humans? Dust doesn’t just create a mess, it creates a health hazard. With the BONA system, there’s no unwanted cleanup, but more importantly, there are no health risks either. No airborne dust while we’re working and no dust in the ductwork to fly around later.

Dustless Sanding Saves Time & Money

Dustless sanding saves us time and money in two ways. With regular sanding, we have to tape off rooms to try to contain the dust to the rooms we are working in. Then, when we are finished, we have to sweep up all the dust and take all the plastic down. With the BONA system, because there’s no need to tape off rooms beforehand and there’s no time wasted cleaning up afterward, we can be in and out of your home faster.

No Dust Means a Perfect Finish

Another advantage to no dust is a perfect finish on your new wood floors. There’s no dust to settle on the surface, so your floors look fantastic Whether we’re refinishing an existing wood floor or installing a brand new one, dust is simply not an issue when we sand.

“We realized right away that dustless sanding was the best thing for everyone involved. It saves us time and keeps the customer’s home clean. The minute I heard about it, I knew it was well worth the investment,” said Steve Brattin, owner of SVB Wood Floors. “That was over 18 years ago, and that’s the level of service our customers have come to expect.”
