Staircase installation requires precision wood cutting and particular expertise.
Staircases are trickier to install than regular wood flooring. In fact, some wood floor companies only install floors and call in a specialist for staircases. Staircases often need to be rebuilt; the wood under the existing carpet may not be able to be sanded or stained, plus the risers need to be replaced.
At SVB Wood Floors, we’re experts at wood staircase installation. Because you are working in a confined space, staircases require precision cutting skills and lots of patience. Luckily, we’ve got plenty of both.
Whether you only want hardwood stairs installed or want to include your staircase as part of a larger flooring project, SVB Wood Floors is your one-call solution.
Turn your staircase landing into a work of art.
Landings are an essential part of any staircase. Since each individual stair is not big enough to create a complete style, the landings are where we can create custom patterns that make your staircase stand out.
Simply angling the direction of the wood planks can add sophistication to a plain landing. Adding borders around landings also creates an effortless elegance. Medallions come in all different sizes, making some ideal for staircase landings.
Landings are small areas that can have a significant impact. Since they are not large, you can customize them the way you want for far less than you might think. Contact us today for a free in-home design consultation and estimate.

FAQ
Should the stair treads match the risers?
That’s entirely up to you! You can have stair treads (the part of the stairs you step on) and risers (the vertical part of the stairs between the steps) in a matching wood stain if you like. Or, you can have stained wood treads with painted risers, natural stained treads with darker stained risers, etc. Many homeowners like the visual “pop” of contrasting treads and risers. One current trend is to have the risers painted white.
During your in-home design consultation, we’ll discuss your options and make suggestions based on your home decor and the visual effect you want your wood stairs to have. We want you to come away from the process with the beautiful wooden staircase you’ll love and be proud to show off.
Can you convert my carpeted stairs to hardwood?
If you already have solid hardwood that is red or white oak beneath the carpet, we can refinish the wood stairs to bring them back to their original beauty. This involves sanding (using our dustless process that keeps your air and home clean), staining and finishing with a durable topcoat. We can match the original hardwood stain or create something new for you with our custom color process.
If you don’t have this red or white oak solid hardwood beneath the carpet, we will need to rebuild the stairs. Not sure what’s beneath the carpet? Contact us for a free in-home consultation and we’ll help you figure it out.
