Who Is Tamara Day?
Tamara grew up on the Midwestern plains of Salina, Kansas. She learned many hands-on “do-it-yourself” skills, including construction and agriculture, from her dad, Ward. After graduating from Kansas State University with a degree in communications and marrying her husband, Bill, they began buying old houses and renovating them into beautiful homes.
In 2008, as the “great recession” took hold across America, the Days bought a 5,000 square-foot foreclosed home that required a complete overhaul. It was quite literally a “wreck.” Tamara designed the house by herself, and then she and Bill went to work doing a lot of the renovation work themselves.
To keep that renovation on budget, Tamara purchased items at estate sales and reimagined and restored furniture to fit her vision of the home. That project turned out to be so successful that Tamara would host open houses and sell all the furniture she had restored. Her career has only grown from that point, culminating in her starring role on Bargain Mansions which began airing in November 2017.
Tamara is now a busy wife and mother of four, so she knows the importance of family and comfort. Her projects take on the large and neglected homes that others are reluctant to tackle. She works her “magic,” turning something that is in poor condition into something beautiful.
She focuses on staying true to a home’s architectural design and historical context and mixes in modern elements to achieve a modern-yet-traditional style that people love.
What Is “Bargain Mansions”?
Tamara stars in her own show called Bargain Mansions, which airs on the Magnolia Network and streams on Discovery Plus alongside current and classic shows from HGTV. The show follows Tamara and her team as they transform Kansas City area homes, injecting new life into neglected properties. She describes her signature style as being “attainable but aspirational, laid-back lux.”
